Life Hack #68: Adopt a Service Mindset

How often do you intentionally do something to benefit someone else? Can helping others help you be happier? The short answer is yes! Studies show that adopting a service mindset has many benefits for us. It can improve our health, reduce mental health challenges like anxiety and depression, strengthen relationships, help us feel a sense of meaning and purpose, and yes – it makes us happier. The secret to a happier life isn’t doing whatever we can to make ourselves happy, it is taking time and intention to make someone else’s day better. This could be through charitable giving, random acts of kindness, volunteering, helping others at work, there are literally thousands of ways to live with a service mindset. It is important to know that there’s value in making sure our own needs are met too, a service mindset doesn’t mean that we give without boundaries or in ways that harm our own wellbeing. Overall, adopting a service mindset – that is, what can I do to make the world, my team, my family, my neighborhood a better place – is a great way to start. So, what’s one thing you could do today to make a positive difference for others?
